December 17th, 2018 :    Christmas is coming soon, it will be time for toys and games for the whole family.


    It can also be an opportunity to (re)discover the games that were played in the old days, here in Brittany or anywhere in the world!

    So today, we have one for you: it is an old and original game called aluette.

November 05th, 2018 :    The Academy supports all languages... and all writing systems :)


     Since our co-founder fell in love with Hindi, we thought it would be a great opportunity to present Hindi's writing system, the Devanagari.


    A short video will also show you how to write this elegant script.

September 10th, 2018 :    The history of Brittany enters our Little Library!

    We often heard about the 'historical Brittany' in the French media, but since this history is not formally taught at school, mistakes can be heard, or read, or said :)

    This situation made us, at the Academy, think a lot. So we decided to contribute to making this History better known with shorts texts... in Gallo of course! (but with an English glossary, as usual).

    We hope they will make you want to learn more about our region with other specialized publications. Happy reading!

     In our "Linguistic Files", you will find a new card that explains how to translate the French sound OI while respecting the linguistic relationship of filiation of the words.

     And after that, we have a little exercise in French-Gallo to train on the topic.

April 09th, 2018 :    The Academy of Gallo supports every minority languages.

    Gallo is not the only European minority language that needs to be defended! All the way from Brittany, the Academy of Gallo brings their committed support to the defense and the promotion of all languages.

    After our contribution to the UNESCO's Mother Language World Day, and then signing the European petition for the recognition of the minority languages in the EU, we are happy to present you with 3 new texts by Guillem Belmar: about the Talepaviljoen, the Catalan and the Frisian languages.

March 26th, 2018:     Our "Linguistic Files" restructured to welcome many novelties!

     We prepared so many new documents that we decided to reorganise the entire Linguistics Files area in 3 parts:
        - the 1st part sets out the basics needed to normalize a -mostly oral- language;
        - the 2nd part includes a set of index cards dedicated to the topics specific to Gallo grammar;
        - and the 3rd part includes tools to help you writing in Gallo; these tools were produced by the Academy of Gallo, alone or in partnership.

     You will also find information about the linguistic heritage of the key elements used to normalize Gallo, and new index cards with exercises.


March 19th, 2018:    The Academy of Gallo took part in the UNESCO's International Mother Language Day in February

   Like last year, the Academy of Gallo was very active on Twitter and published many memes in Gallo for the Meme Challenge organised by Rising Voices.

   But we also had a lot of fun connecting with speakers and advocates all over the world. Discover, or re-discover some of the funniest tweets ever in languages from everywhere: Hawai'ian, Guernsey French or Fulfulde!

February 12th, 2018 :    Teaching Gallo in Brittany: Plémet and Loudéac

     While less visible than Breton, Gallo can also be taught in public schools in Haute-Bretagne.

    Maryvonne LIMON has taught Gallo in the Loudéac high school and in the Loudéac and Plémet secondary schools for over 10 years, and she also lectured at the Université de Rennes.

    During these years, she produced a great number of videos with her students on various topics around the Breton culture.

    Following her suggestion, the Academy of Gallo is happy to present and promote her videos in a dedicated area of our website. You can watch the first videos here!

January 29th, 2018 :    Jeanne Malivel, a major figure of the Breton culture of the 1920s

    Very famous at the time, Jeanne Malivel won the golden medal in 1925 at the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris. She is one of the great figures of the Breton culture of the early 20th century.

    In spite of a very short life, her considerable work testifies of both the vitality of the Breton culture and of the modernity of her ideas.

January 22nd, 2018 :    The association Pouëvr' et Seu contributes to the Gallo Dictionary.

    We want to express our gratitude to Danièle and Daniel Deveaux, from the Association Pouëvr' et Seu for having offered their themed vocabulary lists to the Academy back in 2017.

    With Pouëvr' et Seu, the Gallo Dictionary will grow richer in new themes, such as music, associations and many others of our Gallo heritage.

    As a starter, we invite you to discover the first lists, typical of the core of Pouëvr' et Seu's activities: the names of musical instruments and some vocabulary about associations and community life.


January 15th, 2018 :    Pepper & Carrot is back in Gallo.

    After an industrious end of the year, the Academy continues to publish and innovate.
    Still, a little magic and dream can go a long way to soften our Mondays, so here comes the 7th instalment of the adventures of Pepper & Carrot.

January 8th, 2018 :     New partner area on our Gallo heritage

    Thanks to our partner Fabien LECUYER, the Academy opens a new area with a collection of oral recordings made by native gallo speakers.

    Enter the area here but most importantly, you too contribute and enrich our gallo heritage with your own recordings: your children and grandchildren will be able to listen to you say your favorite gallo phrases and sentences.
